Kusanagi!....kinda

This is kinda supposed to be Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell...I think I am way off on the costume. Oh well! Maybe I will take another shot at it. One thing is for sure though...Ghost in the Shell is an incredible movie...I am not big fan of Anime, but Ghost is phenomenal.

Venom!

A Venom ink sketch I did.

The Man with the BRIEFCASE!

This was just something I sketched up...it was loosely inspired by an AMAZING film called The Good Shepherd that my cousin introduced me to. Probably one of the greatest films I've seen.

More Concept Art!

This is a character from something I am working on...He is obviously a SPOOf of Spiderman and The Blue Beetle. I hope my patience holds out with the project and I am actually able to see it through to completion...so far it's looking pretty good!

Also I feel like I am getting better at my coloring technique...I've been using more than just a three tone palette .

A BLIND MAN!

Matt Murdock! I love DareDevil...and he is so much fun to draw! This is currently my favorite drawing...I think I am finally starting to get the hang of where I want to take my style.

The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack!

I love this show! It either makes you laugh until you cry or it will make you run away screaming from its weirdness. This is just a doodle of the main characters Knuckles and Flapjack. The Art Director on this show is a freaking genius!

Ultimate Avengers Spidey (Ditko Colors)

In Ultimate Avengers there is a mysterious new Spiderman named "The Spider"...who has kinda a Hannibal Lecter type of feel to him (scary). His Identity is currently a mystery, but a fun little fact, the color scheme of his costume is based on the original color palate that Steve Ditko wanted for Spiderman (orange and purple) but because of a mix up with the printers...they made Spidey red and blue.

I have already posted the pencils for this drawing..so I cheated and just colored it in...LAZY.

Dr. Stark!

Another long and never ending work day. To mix it up a bit I thought I would post this drawing of Gregory Stark, Tony Stark's older and much smarter brother. He made his debut in Ultimate Comics Avengers #3, which was AWESOME!!!!! The guy is an absolute ass, and has the polar opposite temperament of Tony. I can't wait to see what happens with this character! The Ultimate Avengers lineup seems more like a group of terrorists than a team of heroes. Dr. Stark's first mission is to help Nick Fury hunt down Captain America.

Nosferatu!

I wanted to do a Halloween drawing..but I haven't had the time to do anything note worthy...so this Nosferatu is going to have to do. I love Nosferatu!!!.. one of the greatest horror films of all time..if not the best. Though my personal favorite monster movie is American Werewolf in London..maybe if I get some time I will do a werewolf drawing.

Thor vs.Superman

Ok, so I am at work and in between graphic design projects i've been sketching out some ideas (as I often do) for a drawing of Thor I wanna do. Anyways, It got me thinking...Why does Thor always loose whenever he is pitted against Superman? It has only happened a few times..and only once officially in the big JLA/AVENGERS crossover by Busiek and Perez, which was terrible!!!!!! Superman has two main weaknesses Kryptonite and Magic. Thor is a GOD...he is a supernatural being with a magical hammer... He is basically a Magic Superman. Thor would DESTROY Superman...end of story. I'm sorry but I am so freaking sick of this rule that DC's heroes can never be destroyed. I don't care how much of an iconic figure Superman is...Yes he was the first...but that doesn't make him the best. Superman is an Alien and Thor is a God....Thor wins! I mean come on it's SCIENCE...I mean Magic.

Ok back to work!

ELECMAN! concept design

About a week or so ago a friend of mine who is a 3D modeler/animator asked me to redesign the classic MegaMan character ElecMan. He is going to render the character in 3d! I can't wait to see it! Anyways this was the first time I had done a character model sheet...and I'm not very good at it lol..My art is so stylized it's hard to be symmetrical and the sketchiness of the piece makes it a little rough around the edges. So long story short my buddy liked the design and now it's in his hands. I was really jazzed about the opportunity...Thanks again Jimmy!

Ulimate Comics Spiderman#3

I just read UCS#3 yesterday...It was awesome! The first two issues were entertaining and quite enjoyable..but this issue was fantastic in my opinion. Bendis's writing was solid as always...It's like he was destined to write this book. When I first heard that Stuart Immonen was no longer going to be the artist on Ultimate Spider after the reboot...I was almost in tears...I LOVE IMMONEN!!! His artwork was perfect for UCS...but alas all great things come to an end. Anyways, when I heard that David LaFuente was going to be the new artist..honestly I was really upset...I am just not a fan of his work...I love stylized work..even abstractly stylized..I think my work kinda shows that..but I am not of fan of anime/manga styles...and LaFuente definitely has that feel. However, I am also one of the few people who does not care for Mark Bagley's stuff...look I have deep respect for anyone in the industry...and all these guys are better than I could ever hope to be...but Bagely is worshiped like this Icon..and I have no idea why. So my thinking was if I could stomach reading Ultimate Spidey with Bagley's art..I could totally handle LaFuente. Long story short...I really like LaFuente's art in this issue...alot! One thing I have to give him..he draws the most detailed and overly rich backgrounds I have ever seen..They are seriously powerful! His attention to detail on automobiles or even trash on the ground is insane...but his people look like freaking muppets. This issue though he seems to be giving more detail and character to them..and it's working.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK UCS TEAM!

I did a spidey sketch really fast...to go with the post.

ULTIMATE BLACK PANTHER!

Here is a drawing I did of Ultimate Black Panther. I love T'Challa in the Ultimate universe. Long story short he was an African Prince who was attacked by a panther and his wealthy king father had him flown to North America to be treated at the Weapon X facility..anyways instead of treating him and sending him home..they lied and said he died then Weapon X turned him into a mutant and gave him a healing ability and and adamantium claws..kinda like someone else I know. So he is kinda Diet Wolverine..lol He is is currently a member of The Ultimates. Oh and he is a mute..he has no vocal cords..weapons don't need to speak.

Unfinished!..Fail!

Well the new season of CloneWars has started and I wanted to do a StarWars drawing but I haven't done anything in a while..this is a something I was working on a while ago..It was originally gonna be a battle sequence with all these jedi..but like an hour into the drawing I got bored..so I just cropped out Ki-Adi-Mundi..and I'm using this as my CloneWars piece. It's amazing how lazy I can be.

Superman/Batman #63...Ultimate DC Comics?

Ok so yesterday I was at Borders wandering around like an idiot as I often do..and I came across an issue of Superman/Batman....issue #63 one-shot to be exact. Anyways what caught my attention was that the artwork for the issue was done by one of my favorite artists, Rafael Albuquerque!(please check his stuff out..it's insane.) Anways I did the usual flip through to check out the art..and then I figured heck I've got some time..so I decided to read the whole issue. Now let me just say that it has been a long long long time since I read a DC comic and really really enjoyed (with the exception of Geoff John's Green Lantern saga)..but this was really entertaining.

Spoliers..if you care.
So the plot of the issue is a WHAT IF? story..What if Gorilla Grodd took over the planet?
The story follows Batman as he struggles to survive in a ravaged world where Grodd has taken over...reducing Earth's inhabitants to mindless puppets...except Batman, because of his training he knows how to create mental blocks and a constant state of meditation..hmmmm good save..ANYWAYS!!!!!!!! Where is Superman you ask? Well..Grodd created a synthetic kryptonite and filled Earth's atmosphere with it..so Superman had to leave Earth for good..IN YO FACE BIG BLUE!!!! You can guess the rest..SuperSpam returns and saves the day..thanks to an antidote created by non other than Mr. Wayne himself.

Ok, but that isn't what makes this story great. It's the risks and twists that were taken. I love seeing what would happen if the bad guy won!!! There were some great moments in the issue..Like seeing Joker as Grodd's personal pet. Grodd tells Batman that the Joker's mind was so twisted that even he could not control it..AWESOME!!!! so Grodd kept him as a lap dog. And Lex Luthor is in charge of Grodd's human military forces. But my favorite part of the story is Batman...he looks the way I always wished he would..he in outfitted in heavy kevlar armor..military pants and boots, and to top it all off he is sporting some serious Wolverine stubble. Batman looks like he has been pushed over the edge.

Ok so why such a long post..well it's because this issue in my opinion really shows the potential DC has. They need to take more risks...push these characters over the edge...put me "the reader" over the edge. I hate to sound like a broken record..but I really think DC could benefit from creating an Ultimate Universe series like Marvel has done (not the ALL-STAR series). I love Ultimate Marvel Comics..in fact it's currently all I read...not because it's the best..but because it's new and different. For DC the best we can get is a What If? story every once in a blue moon.

I liked the issue so much..I found a new issue of JLA and started to flip through it...FAIL!!!!!!! Wow DC..what are you doing? Seriously...I'm sorry I don't mean to sound like a hater..but who is reading this stuff? Look I know Ultimate Marvel is not without it's terrible arcs...ULTIMATUM by Jeph Loeb was the worst comic series I have ever read! But the reason it was so bad in my opinion is because the perception is that the Ultimate Universe is one dimensional..and Loeb wrote one dimensional characters in a flat one dimensional story...and he ruined everything. Marvel is taking risks right now in all of their publications in my opinion. They are turning everything upside down. DC should do the same...or at least do a series of What If? senarios showing what would happen if each villian was able to achieve their diobolical goals!

Oh and Grodd was awesome in the issue...seeing him eating the remains of fallen superheroes and sitting on a throne of human bones..it was a little over the top..but it fit the character.

AND IM DONE!

For all you Marvel HATERS!

(Sigh) I really don't like this character...He represents everything I hate about DC comics. He is a superhero with GOD-like abilities. The Flash alone should be able to clean up all crime on the planet. I love the concept of the character...but The Flash is just too much. I have a comic from when I was a kid where he ran around the planet in the blink of an eye..and like three panels later the villain he was fighting (Mongul) lands a direct punch on him...WHAT!? Anyways...all that being said I have a love hate relationship with DC...comic-books would be nothing without em. And for anyone who cares..this isn't Wally West..it's Barry Allen. Hal, Barry, and Oliver always manage to get on my good side. Maybe I'll do a group shot of them..BFFs lol.

ULTIMATE CAP!

Here is a pencil sketch I did of Ultimate Captain America. I didn't feel like inking it so I went straight to color. It's totally rough around the edges..like most of my stuff. The shield that was on the original drawing was way too messy to color... so I cheated and cropped it out and built it in Photoshop based on a shield I found online. All in all it ain't so bad for a drawing that was headed for the trashcan. It's turned into another Ultimate Avengers piece. Perhaps I should do a series of the whole team. Or just just a drawing of the whole group...I dunno.

Ultimate Hawkeye!

If you are a comic fan and you are not reading Ultimate Avengers...then check your pulse. Mark Millar has returned to the universe he co-created, and in two issues has managed to clean up a great deal of the mess left behind by writer Jeph Loeb (Ultimates 3/Ultimatum). I hated what Loeb did with Hawkeye, he literally shit on one of the greatest characters in the Ultimate U, but Millar is bringing the character back from the pits of comicbook hell. I just really wish he would lose the purple costume...he looks like a freaking Power Ranger. Either way I loved him in issue #1 of Ultimate Avengers so much I decided to draw him..minus the bullseye on his forehead..some things I hate too much.

Oh I didn't erase the pencils after I inked it so it looks kinda messy :( ...I fail

HULK SMASH!!!!!!!!!!

This was a commission I did of the Hulk. I am officially out of Green prisma markers!

Marvel's White Knight!

Inked a quick messy sketch I did of Moon Knight. I've been playing around with my style again..trying to make it more funky..I'm not quite there yet..but I'm getting close. Anyways..I love this character, and I wish Marvel would make him one of their icons..I think he is an untapped resource for some great stories. He needs to be back on the Avengers!

More Old Stuff (pencil sketches)

Here are some rough pencils of all kinds of stuff including some personal projects that I hope will one day see the light!

More Old Stuff ( Spidey Family Drawings)

Here are some old Spidey drawings I did a while back with the Prisma Markers. Everything I do lately is colored digitally..so it's fun to see marker work...It isn't as good but whatever.

Ultimate Spiderman, More Spiderman, Ultimate Spiderwoman, and My version of Spidey if he joined The Ultimates!!!!

Old Artwork (08 and early 09)

These are some old character busts I did with my Prisma Markers a while back.
DareDevil, Gambit, Wolverine, Beast

The Mouse that ate the Spider pt.2

THE BAD-

I was gonna make this long and drawn out and really vent, but I think I can make this short and sweet. Disney is the best at what they do..period..and they maintain their seat as Animation and Entertainment Royalty by running their company like a Nazi regime. Disney is overly controlling with everything they do..why? It's simple because Disney's main focus is "Keeping the Magic alive in the Hearts and Minds of Children Everywhere!" that is their goal, and so far they have done a great job. When I go to Disneyland..I truly feel like I am in another world..suddenly I forget about all of my stresses and my number one concern is getting to Space-Mountain before the lines get too long. Even with hordes of obnoxious tourists crawling all over..I am still having a great time. They want to keep little kiddies happy. Marvel Entertainment has spent the past 10 years (in my opinion) trying to show that Comics are not just for little kids anymore. I can't remember the last time I saw a child in a comicbook store. Usually they are morbidly obese men in their mid 30s with a stack of WonderWoman comics under their arm...jk..kinda..not all the time. When Marvel launched its Ultimate Comics line over a decade ago they re-defined the industry with compelling and mature and gritty storlines. Even the issues little 15 yr. old Peter Parker was facing were true to the struggles of the modern teen. I would hate nothing more then for Disney to fly down and bite the head off of Marvel because their stories contain Mature content...THAT IS WHAT MAKES THEM SO GREAT! I would also hate to see Marvel Studios suffer at Disney's white chubby gloved hand. Iron-Man was perfect..and The prospect of an Avengers movie has me dancing around the office like a ballerina, and if Disney puts a stop to those plans..they will push Marvel Studios back to the days of The DareDevil movie :(. So my final words..DISNEY LOOK AND ENJOY..BUT DON'T TOUCH!...so much for keeping it short.

Spidey Doodle

A quick sketch I did before bedtime. I decided to color it with the last of my Prisma markers. One of my many weaknesses as an artist is my impatient hand. I have A.D.D and I am always rushing to finish my peices...therefore one of my biggest weaknesses is my inking...and I think this sketch really shows it. It was fun to use the markers though..most of my stuff is colored in photoshop these days. The markers remind me of what it was like to draw when I was little :)

The Mouse that ate the Spider! pt1

Ok for those of you who don't know..Disney has officially purchased Marvel Entertainment for 4 billion dollars!..wait a minute while I clean the throw up off of my shirt..........ok im good.

This is AMAZING and TERRIFYING all at the same time. I am both a die hard Marvel and Disney fanatic..but this merger has left me somewhat shaken. Let's break it down with THE GOOD and THE BAD.

The Good-

MONEY MONEY MONEY for Marvel. Marvel was well on its way to becoming a entertainment powerhouse, but now it is official. With a billion dollar budget Marvel will be able to extend its arms further then before and hopefully grab every well established writer and artist in the industry, as well as every rising star breaking into the field. Also, it could possibly mean a price cut on comic books. With the economy sucking the life out of everything in site, this increased budget may allow Marvel to loosen their Hulkish grip on my wallet...4 dollars an issue?...Kill Yourself. I have to say as a "True Believer" in not only Marvel, but the Comic book industry in general, I can't explain how happy I am to see this form of entertianment finally get the mainstream respect it deserves. Since I was ten years old I have wanted nothing more then to be a comic book artist, and I have such a deep respect for the genre (blah blah blah I can go on for days). In regards to Disney I can honestly say nothing brings me more comfort than curling up on the sofa with a hot cup of coffee and watching one of the many Disney classics which I have on special edition dvd...gay. I am also a Disneyland pass holder and have visited the park probably a million times...super gay. All that being said it is kinda cool to see these two companies come together....ok enough of that.

coming soon pt2 THE BAD!!!!!!!!!!!

Disney takes over Marvel!!!

A quick sketch I did at work..I'm so productive! I will be talking about the Disney takeover of Marvel in coming posts.

First Post!

My first post! My plan is to use this blog as a place to vent my frustrations about the world...I and believe I will be the first person on the internet to do so. Also I needed a place to post my Artwork and deviantart was to hard..and it made my brain hurt.
